Making the decision to enroll your child into online high school is challenging. There are so many questions to answer:
- Will my child get a quality education?
- Will the courses be just handed out or will there be
someone to guide my child?
- Is there an online high school out there which
doesn't cost thousands of dollars?
- Is there an online high school out there which adheres
to state and national education standards and provides
a comprehensive educational environment
for
my child?

With AZTEC, you can be assured an affirmative
answer to each of these questions. Please review our FAQ
Section for answers to these questions and many more.

Choosing Electives
Cultivating Interests, Strengths, and Special Talents
So you have good grades in all of your required classes, so you feel that you should be able to follow your fancy in choosing electives, right? Not necessarily. Many high schools' minimum requirements are not rigorous enough to satisfy College Admission Officials, so you'll want to be sure that you select a high school course of study that meets your college standards.
Freshman year is not too early to meet (virtually) with one of our guidance counselor and begin charting your College preparation course plan. Freshmen need to work out their program of study even before they begin high school to ensure they will have room in their schedules to cover all the courses Colleges require,
But it is not too late to do this even if you are in your Senior year of study. Let us help you to determine the best courses to take as electives in order to fulfill your personal requirements for College. Linkonlearning courses can be accelerated for you the learner in order to allow you to finish electives in a timely manner to continue forward onto College or University.
Career and Life Training
It is wise to have a goal in mind when working towards College or University. Specialty colleges may have specific requirements. Some colleges will consider students who have not necessarily completed the traditional core curriculum, but have challenged themselves to the best of their abilities. We recommend the College Board's College Handbook to see what specific colleges are looking for. As a general rule, however, students should maintain a well-rounded and challenging schedule.
The College Board College Handbook 2005
Here's the fast, easy way to narrow a college search. This comprehensive guide speeds you straight to the latest details on more than 3,600 colleges and universities--entrance requirements, class sizes, costs, financial aid, housing, majors, and much more. No other college guide gives you:
- Detailed descriptions of every accredited college in the U.S.
- Over 40 indexes, which help you to find schools by type, size, sports programs, religious affiliation, and more.
- The most up-to-date cost and tuition information available.
- The latest facts on early decision and wait list policies and outcomes.
- Profiles of more than 1,600 two-year colleges.
Interests and Strengths
Some experts advise students to not only follow their interests, but also focus on their strengths when choosing electives. A student who excels in foreign languages could boost his/her grade point average and class standing by enrolling in a fourth year of Spanish. Advisers also warn students not to stock up on "light" classes their senior year, because colleges and universities look for the student's ability to maintain four years of academic course work.
Special Needs Students
A child with learning difficulties or attention problems may need some modification to a standard curriculum. Sometimes these can be minor adaptations, such as presenting lessons orally. The AZTEC program allows for these accommodations by providing video instruction and auditory application ability throughout its course ware.
An individualized curriculum which works with the student's strengths in order to develop the weaker areas is the best teaching approach for a student with learning difficulties.
For the home schooling parent, designing such a curriculum can be a real challenge. While a parent may be knowledgeable about a child's learning style, the parent may not know where to find appropriate materials to satisfy the academic requirement as well as fit the child's learning needs. Take the time to contact one of our councilors to further discuss the best fit for your child.
The Special Services department at Linkonlearning / AZTEC works to help children with a range of difficulties, such as Attention Deficit, Downs Syndrome, and dyslexia.

My child has a learning disability. Can I home school him?
If you have been working with your child at home doing homework or class work, you are probably aware of his learning style and what works best for him. When you combine this knowledge of your child and curriculum materials which are individually selected for your child by the counselors in the Special Services Department, the challenge of home schooling your special needs child seems manageable.

| 2. |
What kinds of disabilities are serviced by the Special Services Department?
The Special Services Department provides curriculums for students with a wide range of disabilities including dyslexia, pervasive developmental disorder, Downs Syndrome, Asperger’s Syndrome, and Attention Deficit Disorder.

| 7. |
Due to his learning disability, a student sometimes takes longer than 18 weeks to complete an academic curriculum. How does the Special Services Department accommodate this?
A student enrolled in the Special Services Department has up to 36 weeks to complete and if not completed within this time frame special accommodation can be made to further increase this time allowance under the proper rules and regulations. An extension fee may be required for this.
|
| 8. |
Will the high school report card indicate that a student is taking courses from the Special Services Department?
No we do not separate the course codes from the regular courses within the program.
|
| 9. |
If I choose not to submit work for grades am I still enrolled in the AZTEC Program?
If the fee is paid you are enrolled in AZTEC program.
If no student work has been submitted in the first week, Linkonlearning cannot verify to anyone that a student is actively enrolled. For a student to be actively enrolled, he must submit at least three lessons during the first week, and must submit at least one lesson concurrently throughout the course. |
Games and Contests
Linkonlearning offers a variety of games based on the grade and courses that you are enrolled in. The first contest is run quarterly with the first draw being held on September 23, 2005 . All students must take a pre-course to determine computer abilities and to train in the proper use of navigation through our course ware. The fastest and most accurate daily pre-course registrant will be entered into this draw for an IPOD.
Come back regularly to see the Contests that are being run. We encourage you to pre-register for fall semester courses now as the registration process can take up to two weeks and placement is on a first come first serve basis.
